Planning day trips and excursions from Busan
Busan's position at the southeastern tip of Korea makes it an excellent base for day trips to some of the peninsula's most rewarding destinations, and none of them require a car. Gyeongju is the most compelling option: a city that served as the capital of the Silla Kingdom for nearly a thousand years, it holds a UNESCO-designated concentration of royal burial mounds (tumuli), the Bulguksa temple complex, the Seokguram stone grotto Buddha on the hillside above, and Anapji Pond whose evening illuminations reflect a reconstructed Silla-era garden. The KTX from Busan Station reaches Singyeongju in around 50 minutes, and the main sites are accessible by local bus or taxi from the city centre.
Tongyeong, about two hours by express bus from Busan's Seobu terminal, is a port city with a cable car over the bay, the Hansan Island fortress associated with Admiral Yi Sunsin's 16th-century naval victories, and an underrated food scene built around fresh oysters and Chungmu gimbap. Oedo Botania is a privately developed botanical garden built on a small island off the coast of Geoje. Access is by ferry from Gujora or Waehyeon piers on Geoje Island, with the crossing taking about 30 minutes. The garden is famous for its Mediterranean-style plant terraces and is most popular in April (camellia) and May (rose) but open year-round.
Is the Jinhae cherry blossom trip worth it outside of blossom season?

Can I combine Gyeongju and Ulsan in a single long day trip?
